Update on our Social Media Project

From this experience we have learned so much about using Twitter. As this is a form of social media neither of us have used before it was fun to learn the different applications that Twitter has. From the difficulty of finding others on Twitter to the short length allowed it was an effective means of updating people on our findings. We did find that Twitter made it very easy to find tweets about a certain subject, much easier than any other social media site we have tried. Facebook Groups - A different way to connect

I started using Facebook with in the last six months. My wife, and her friends were using it regularly, and my brother has been on Facebook for years. I decided that it was about time for me to join the party. I never realized what a powerful tool it could be for bringing people together. In addition to sharing videos, pictures, and links Facebook allows for the formation of groups. These groups allow the organizer to communicate with all the group members simultaneously. The groups also allow the users to contribute to discussions and post comments on the group wall.

Setting up a Facebook group for our e-commerce class was very easy. It took about 5-10 minutes to set up the group. In the event that there is a large group of people you want to invite, Facebook has even made it possible to upload email address from you Outlook address list. Since it was so simple to set up it got me to thinking about the applications that these groups could have in a business environment. With a little creativity these groups could be used for purposes like updated clients on project progress, or updating them on the products and services you offer. There are many possible ways this social media service could be harnessed to increase the level of customer service around the world.

Watch out with your social networks!

Just a friendly reminder to watch out what you say online and who can access that information. On the safe side, set your facebook to private so only your friends can see and be careful who you friend.

I was sent to my teacher's facebook page by someone else who suggested it would be of interest to me. Her page is not private and right there in her status update were several rants about her students and how dumb they are. Set out as a seperate status update, she made it clear that she thinks I'm an idiot based on a question I asked. She also sounded upset that I'd even asked a question when the class period before she'd been begging students to email her! Basically she didn't like my project idea that I sent in asking if it was ok to do. Our project is due Monday and I've got to work on it. Her email to me said it was great and to "go for it," but then on facebook she ranted about how dumb it is since it doesn't fit the traditional definition of ---------- which we are analyzing in our project.

I'm not quite sure if I should rush to find another project based on her disgust with me on facebook or just cross my fingers that she'll grade with the false enthusiasm of her email.

Any ideas guys?

Twittering to Promote Pennypinchingcollegestudents

Hey all,
Kristina and I started Twittering for our social media project and have started twittering about our big project as well. Twitter is a very interesting concept, but is geared more towards little updates unlike the blogs where you can share a lot more information if you need to. I personally think that is one of the downsides to twitter, you only have a limited number of characters that you can utilize. But it is a fun way to let people know what you are up to. We will start twitting more about our blog as we progress.

Join Up

Hey guys I created my first twitter account for our social media project. If you tweet or are also doing twitter as your project, follow me! My page is http://twitter.com/jsallee76. You can also help me come up with ideas of cool people to follow. I haven't made too many posts yet and I don't know if this is something I'll really be getting into with my personal life. I decided to follow Josh McDaniels first becuase the Broncos are 3 and 0! Did anyone see Joe Sakic's retirement ceremony? Joe is my hero. Perhaps in the future I'll follow Brittney Spears or something... jk ew roflcopter.
